General Skills/Overnight Camp/Baby Coogs: June 8-11, 2015
The University of Houston General Skills camp will be covering the fundamentals of every aspect of the game of softball including offense, defense, and base running. The defensive aspect will include the breakdown of proper throwing mechanics and the opportunity to implement their skill by soaking counselors in the dunk tank. Position play and team defense will be incorporated through modified scrimmages and one on one instruction from camp counselors. During the offensive sessions, campers will learn the University of Houston philosophy of hitting by working with collegiate level athletes and learning the importance of being an offensive powerhouse. Campers will also work on the fundamentals of bunting through drills and bunting challenges. The University of Houston softball program takes pride in doing the little things right and base running seems to be the most over looked detail of the game. This camp will teach young athletes the where's and why's of base running and also the art of sliding by using the slip and slide to cool them off.
This year we will be hosting our 5th annual overnight camp. The scheduled night activities are set for a night of bowling, a movie night, and many other activities. The campers will check in Monday morning before camp begins at the University of Houston Cougar Village. There will be camp directors and camp counselors with the overnight campers at all times. All overnight camper meals and activities are figured into camp price.
The High School Summer Camp will cover the advanced skills of offense and defense, paying attention to the details because the little things make a difference at the collegiate level. Campers will get a chance to experience the drills a Division I College softball player practices daily. The camp will be set up for high intensity drills and have the opportunity to implement the skills learned into live play during the scrimmages. The camp will be a two day camp in which other DI college coaches will be assisting with drills and observing during the scrimmages.
The Cougars Softball pitching and catching is something that we take great pride in. This year we have brought in numerous pitchers and catchers coaches that have worked with top athletes to add to our Houston Staff. The Pitching and Catching camp will be held in our indoor facility where pitcher and catchers can easily work individually and together in a great climate.
The pitching camp will teach the three aspects of pitching in detail: speed, accuracy, and movement. The campers will have an opportunity to learn new drills and learn from a great camp staff including 5 past All American pitchers. The pitching camp will be split into age level or experience level to ensure the appropriate development for each camper.
This year we will have special guest coaches come in and teach their specialty pitch. We will update the website when confirmation has been received on the staff for the camp.
The catching side of the camp will focus on blocking, throwing, and framing in detail. This is a great opportunity for catchers to get position specific drills to improve on becoming the next level catcher. The catchers will work individually with the camp staff to develop and learn the fundamentals of catching. The catchers will also work with the pitchers to implement the skills worked on that day. Catching camp is great for beginners to learn the fundamentals as well as challenging for advanced catchers to work on the details and get ample amount of repetition.
